A unique
book on matchless work
This is the New Year gift for me! Today I got the copy of book
“Amazing Pipalantri” that I have translated in English. The writer himself came to my office to gift me all the way from Jodhpur.
I am so fortunate that I had the opportunity to translate the
Hindi book written by a great agriculture and environmental writer and my
younger brother Moinuddin Chishti. The fragrance of soil in his writing can’t
be translated in any language, but I have tried my best. This is a reporting based book, prepared by
compilation of ground reports of the writer. The book is the result of his more than
450 visits to Pipalantri to be the eyewitness of recreation of Panchayat from
beginning till today. Chishti is the only person who went into deep and carried
out all the wonders of Ex-sarpanch Shyam Sundar Paliwal.
For very first time I met Shyam Sundar Paliwal when he got
first Nirmal Gram Panchayat Award in Rajasthan in 2007. It was pretty
interesting to listening to his troublesome but rewarding journey. I must share
one incident which he shared with me 10 years back as a prize winner Sarpanch.
Long back when he constructed first public toilet, which was very first toilet in his
panchayat area, he faced rejections form all side. He requested every one with
folded hands to use it, saying ‘Padharo Sa’ (welcome please). At last a few people
tried it, some of them further find it useful. Paliwal ji himself used to clean
the toilet every day; being a Brahman by caste it became a big issue for all
there. Paliwal ji was not ready to give it up at any cost. Hereafter he managed
to convince the elderly people of the village and finally got the acceptance
from all.
I met him many times and our telephonic conversations are
continued. One day he ranged me and broke down into tears on call. He told that
he lost his young daughter Kiran. I was speechless, I left with no words. At that moment it was very difficult
for me to console him although I tried to get suitable words for his hardest
time of life. Time passed by! One day I got another call from him. He said
delightedly, “Bahan ji, I have launched “Kiran Nidhi Yojana” for all the
surviving and unborn daughters of my Panchayat Pipalantri. It was the great news
for me. I saw Kiran is back in the form of all daughters of the village. The
way Paliwal ji got back his lost daughter, I think is the finest way to make
your beloved everlasting. I salute his zeal.
Moinuddin ji, thanks for making people known to the amazing
place in our state Rajasthan through your book. I found everything amazing in
this book and I am sure the reader will find that too.
All The Best!
-Amrita Maurya
